Is it wrong to smile because a noted anti-gay bigot is dying, especially when it’s a person who pickets the funerals of fallen soldiers to spread his hate? After decades of hateful words and actions that have disgusted people across the political spectrum, Westboro Baptist Church founder Fred Phelps is reportedly near death in Kansas.

Fred Phelps is finally dying, says his estranged son
According to a Facebook status posted last night by Phelps’ son Nathan, the “God Hates Fags” church leader is dying surrounded by only the anti-gay members of his family.

“I’ve learned that my father, Fred Phelps, Sr., pastor of the “God Hates Fags” Westboro Baptist Church, was ex-communicated from the “church” back in August of 2013,” Nathan Phelps wrote. “He is now on the edge of death at Midland Hospice house in Topeka, Kansas.

I’m not sure how I feel about this. Terribly ironic that his devotion to his god ends this way. Destroyed by the monster he made.

I feel sad for all the hurt he’s caused so many. I feel sad for those who will lose the grandfather and father they loved. And I’m bitterly angry that my family is blocking the family members who left from seeing him, and saying their good-byes.”

Fred Phelps has been a merchant of hate for decades
In any normal circumstances, the news that children are losing their father would be sad. And while I do feel genuinely sorry for Nathan Phelps, I can’t and don’t feel bad about Fred Phelps’ impending meeting with his maker. In my own hometown, the Westboro bigots picketed the funeral of a soldier who was loved by all. Similar scenarios have played out all across the nation. A brave soldier falls in battle and is shipped home to grieving family and friends. A funeral is then held as maybe a dozen morons protest nearby and thank their god for dead soldiers, for their cause of spreading anti-gay hate.

Fred Phelps, of course, is the founder of Westboro Baptist Church and the man who began the funeral protests. His family is loathed by just about everyone except fellow anti-gay bigots. And here’s many quotes that reveal why. All quotes are from the WBC website which I will not give free advertising to by posting their link here. If you really want to visit their website, you’ll have to search for it yourself.

Fred Phelps on the September 11th terrorist attacks:

“God hates America, and those calamities last Tuesday [September 11, 2001] are none other than the wrath of God, smiting fag America… That wasn’t any accident. That wasn’t any coincidence. There’s only America to blame for those tragedies.”

“God hates America, and God demonstrated that hatred to some modest degree only last Tuesday — sent in those bombers, those hellacious 767 Boeing bombers, and it was a glorious sight.”

“Thank God for 9/11. Thank God that, five years ago, the wrath of God was poured out upon this evil nation. America, land of the sodomite damned. We thank thee, Lord God Almighty, for answering the prayers of those that are under the altar.”

Fred Phelps on the 2004 Asian tsumani:

“Thank God for the tsunami, and thank God that two thousand dead Swedes are fertilizing the ground over there [in Asia]. How many of these two thousand, do you suppose, were fags and dykes?”

Fred Phelps on the Virginia Tech shooting:

“The Lord sent a world-class whopper of a massacre to Virginia Tech, killing thirty-three, drawing headlines like ‘Shocked!’, ‘Horrified!’, ‘The worst massacre in US history!’. Well, we wish you were thirty-three thousand killed, but we are thankful to our Father for thirty-three.”

Fred Phelps on the United States:

“God hates fags! God hates America! Thank God for dead soldiers! You’re going to hell!”

Fred Phelps has done nothing but spread hate across the nation. It’s doubtful many will mourn his passing.
