South African Doctor Says WHO is lying

A South African medical doctor said Wednesday that the deadly Ebola virus is spreading faster than is being made public and accused the World Health Organisation (WHO) of under-playing the actual numbers of those who have died since the outbreak started in March.Juli Switala, a South African paediatrician based in Bo in Sierra Leone, said WHO claims that the death toll from the Ebola outbreak has so far killed more than 4,000 people was a cover-up of the real extent of the problem.

“Don’t be fooled by the numbers; 4,000 is really not a lot, we don’t trust those numbers. We know that people are hiding bodies. We know that 4,000 is an under-estimation,” she told the South African Broadcasting Corporation.

She said the real picture was that nurses and doctors were now terrified to go to work while several communities were hiding their relatives and refusing to seek medical help until it is too late.

The Ebola outbreak has devastated parts of West Africa and has necessitated an international response.
