Sen. Clementa Pinckney One of Many Dead in Charleston Church Shooting


Reverend Clementa Pinckney, a South Carolina state senator and the pastor of the Emanuel A.M.E. Church in Charleston, South Carolina, was fatally shot in a mass shooting that his sister was also a victim of. Details on her are scarce, but some say she too has passed away.

Pinckney, 41, and several others were shot at the historic black church by a white gunman. The shooting happened during a prayer meeting.

The other victims have not yet been identified. The gunman has also not been identified and remains at-large. He has been described as being in his 20s with blonde hair and a slender build. He is believed to have acted alone.

The shooting is being investigated as a hate crime, police said.
