Man discovers he’s babysitting abducted child

JOHN Truong thought he was helping his sister have a night out with her boyfriend. Then he discovered the child he was babysitting had been reported missing.

In a bizarre case police have since arrested Truong’s sister, Alyssa Chang, and the boy’s 65-year-old grandmother Vien Nguyen, after the pair allegedly tied up the child’s mother and locked her in a cupboard in Washington.

Police say they incapacitated his mother with a Taser, and drove both to another house in Fife where they tied up the mother in the garage.

An Amber Alert was issued on Tuesday night after the mother managed to escape and ran to a neighbour’s place.

Truong’s sister said she would return in the morning to pick up Ronnie. However she did not show up and stopped returning his messages.

It was not until the next day that Truong saw the Amber Alert for a child that looked exactly like the one he was still looking after.

“I’m eating my breakfast, I’m checking my Facebook, all of a sudden I see this Amber Alert for this child,” Mr Truong told KOMO News. “And it looks like this child in my bed, and I’m like, “Oh my God! What’s going on?”

Truong then called police. He said Ronnie had been perfectly well behaved.

“He was a great kid. He didn’t cry much or anything. He enjoyed my dog’s company and my children’s company,” Mr Truong said. “Everything seemed great and then all of a sudden I’m eating breakfast and it turns out to be this.”

He said he was shocked that his sister had been arrested, saying it was out of character for her.

“I feel like she was just helping her boyfriend out and just got into this horrible situation,” he said. “We’re family people … Honestly I’m at a loss for words right now. It’s just crazy.”

Police are continuing their investigation as to why little Ronnie was abducted.

Authorities made public the fact they were looking for the grandmother, who voluntarily came to the police station where she was questioned for hours.
