Eyewitness account in Calaba Town (Sierra Leone)

As I type this message, there is a very sick man at a place called “Wass Car” near PMB junction. Onlookers identify this man as residing in an household at Calaba Town down a road that leads to YDM junction. In that household, 9 people have died within 2 weeks.

Yesterday (November 3rd) at around this same time after several calls to 117, the mother of this sick man was finally reached. She was gravely ill by then and by the time the Ebola health officials could put her on board the ambulance she was declared dead. To utter surprise of all, the dead woman’s body was immediately placed along roadside.

The health team said that they could not proceed with her corpse in the ambulance as it was now the responsibility of the Ebola Burial Team to handle her corpse. So, the dead lady remained along the road till around 4pm today (Nov. 4th) albeit the very heavy down pour of rain at Calaba Town yester-night.

Their house was never quarantined leading many to say the deaths were a result of “bom sweh”. Now the last surviving member of the household has fled the house and is gravely ill at a public place. Calls have been made to 117.

I also personally called 117 by 5:45pm and was shocked to be told that they have already related that info to the Ebola health officials and have been informed that due to the risk and limited manpower available they cannot deal with any new case after 5pm. HOW EBOLA GO DON NA FREETONG?
