CF Police call in Waterloo bomb squad after pipe bomb found

Cedar Falls Police are investigating what they say is a pipe bomb found near a Cedar Falls neighborhood and businesses Tuesday morning.

A pipe bomb was apparently found in a manhole by Cedar Falls Public Works at an undetermined time Tuesday morning, according to KWWL reporters on scene.

Officials brought the device above ground and set it down before deciding it was suspicious.

Viewer Tony Stoffregen of Cedar Falls sent us photos of what he says is the device found by police. He said it is now sitting in his front yard.

Police have evacuated all homes around the area of the 2300 block of Royal Drive.

Community United Child Care Center on Seerley Boulevard is on voluntary lockdown.

Peet Junior High is not on lockdown, but is monitoring the situation, according to school officials.

Streets in the area are blocked off and the Waterloo Police Department Bomb Squad is en route. Police say they are treating the situation seriously.

Officers also say University of Northern Iowa police and the Iowa State Patrol are assisting.
