Health officials are warning families across the country about a nasty stomach illness that is spreading and is becoming resistant to drugs.
The Shigella bacteria spreads easily and can cause diarrhea, stomach pain and fever.
The Centers for Disease Control identified several large clusters of the illness in California, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.
Experts say half of the cases were associated with people who traveled to India or the Dominican Republic.
Officials say 90 percent of samples tested were resistant to the antibiotic Cipro, which is the first line of defense in treating adults with Shigella.
Doctors say many cases will go away on their own and antibiotics should be reserved for severe cases.
