6 Year Old Sexually Assaulted in Charlotte Movie Theater

The Lowell Police Department says the persons of interest have been identified.

The relationship between the two is mother and son. Lowell police have spoken to both.

The investigation revealed the mother had no knowledge of the alleged incident. No arrests have been made, and police said the investigation is ongoing.

Lowell police will meet with the Gaston County District Attorney’s Office to determine if charges will be filed.
Lowell police are asking for help in identifying a teen in connection with a sex offense.
Police said a 6-year-old boy was sexually assaulted in a bathroom of the Regal Cinema.

It happened around 4 p.m. Saturday. Police said the attacker was at the theater to see “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water.” He was wearing white sneakers, black pants and a blue hoodie with a Superman symbol on the chest.
Officials have video of him coming into the theater with a gray-haired woman. They paid cash for two tickets to the SpongeBob movie.
While the victim’s mother was at the snack bar, the child went to the restroom. Police said his attacker followed him inside and cornered him in a stall.
“I was there, it could have been my little cousin,” Hannah Adams said.
Adams took her 12-year-old cousin to the same theater the day the attack happened.
“That scares me,” Adams said. “If that happened to my little cousin she wouldn’t know what to do in that situation.”
Rick Slate said parents need to be diligent.
“It’s unnerving to think you could go to a movie as a family and it wouldn’t be safe for a child,” Slate said.
While officials said they have video from inside the theater, there were no cameras outside to see how they got to the theater.
